In Divine Inspiration in ByzantiumKarin Krause examines conceptions of divine inspiration and authenticity in the religious literature and visual arts of Byzantium, demonstrating the pivotal role that claims to the divine inspiration of religious literature and art played in the construction of Byzantine cultural identity. Prof. Richard Miller will join Prof. Krause in conversation.

In Second Texts and Second Opinions: Essays Towards a Jewish BioethicsLaurie Zoloth takes as her book’s subject the intensely private discussions that arise when ordinary people confront life and death choices and struggle with decisions in a world of medical and scientific complexity.  Prof. William Schweiker and UChicago Medicine's Scott D. Moses, MD., will join Prof. Zoloth in conversation.

Wednesday, January 31:  Today's event is a joint event: The Hiram Thomas Book Event and Dean’s Forum with Bruce Lincoln.  

In Secrets, Lies, and Consequences: A Great Scholar's Hidden Past and his Protégé's Unsolved Murder, Bruce Lincoln analyzes the last events leading up to Ioan Culianu's murder. Prof. Christian K. Wedemeyer and Ted Anton, Professor in the English department at DePaul University, will join Prof. Emeritus Lincoln in conversation.  

Spring Quarter 2024

April 19:  Kevin Hector's recent work Christianity as a Way of Life focuses on Christianity’s core practices oriented towards wisdom. Prof. Daniel A. Arnold will join Prof. Hector in conversation.

May 1: In John Chrysostom on Paul: Praises and Problem Passages-- Margaret M. Mitchell collects twenty-five of John Chrysostom’s lesser-known sermons on Pauline passages as well as some that focus on Paul himself. Prof. Stephan Licha will join Prof. Mitchell in conversation.
