Our Outcomes

Divinity School students pursue a diverse range of careers after graduation. Our alumni lead organizations in a variety of industries, teach at colleges and universities around the world, and enhance communities in ministry and service organizations.

MA Career Outcomes

This chart shows MA placements from 2014-2024 graduates.  40%: Doctoral study is the highest category.   All other categories were under 15%: Unknown (13%), Business and Industry (10%).  Not for profit or social welfare  was 8%. All other categories were 7% or lower:  higher ed admin, college teaching on the tenure track, teaching in primary or secondary, further study or other, writing-research-journalism, educational instruction/other, service industry, clergy and religious leadership, and government.


MDiv Career Outcomes
 

This chart shows MDIv placements for 2014-2024 graduates.  Clergy: 48%, Non for profit or social welfare: 16%, Doctoral study: 10%. All other categories were under ten percent of the total in descending order:  Business and industry: 8%. Then: Unknown. High ed admin, Further study or other Service industry, College teaching (non tenure track), Teaching (primary/secondary), Educational instruction other.


Doctoral Career Outcomes

The University of Chicago Divinity School has served for decades as the largest single institutional educator of tenure-track faculty members for theological seminaries, departments of theology, and programs in religious studies across the spectrum of educational institutions in the United States.
