Karin Krause

The Divinity School is pleased to announce that effective July 1, 2022, Karin Krause has been promoted to Associate Professor of Byzantine Theology and Visual Culture.

Professor Krause is also Affiliated Faculty in the Department of Art History, Faculty Member in the Medieval Studies Program, and Affiliated Faculty in the Center for Hellenic Studies. She is also appointed in The College and teaches courses in our Undergraduate Program in Religious Studies.  A  specialist in the Christian visual cultures of Byzantium and the premodern Mediterranean region, her research interests include visual hermeneutics, Byzantine manuscript culture (in the larger contexts of religious thought and practice), the interrelation of texts and images, the cult of relics, the theology of the icon, and cultural exchange between Byzantium and the West.
