Please join us on Monday, February 6, 4:30pm, in Swift Hall's Lecture Room (3rd floor). for a presentation by Dr. Paul Mandel, senior lecturer of Jewish Studies, Midrash and Aggadah, Schechter Institute, Jerusalem, and Greenberg Visiting Professor of Jewish Studies, Divinity School, University of Chicago. A (kosher) reception will follow. Prof. Mandel's lecture is entitled "The Evolution of Rabbinic Midrash as Biblical Interpretation From Nomos to Narrative."

Dr. Paul Mandel is senior lecturer of Jewish Studies, Midrash and Aggadah, at the Schechter Institute in Jerusalem and Greenberg Visiting Professor of Jewish Studies in the Divinity School, University of Chicago, for Winter Quarter 2023. Dr. Mandel received his doctorate from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and has taught at the Schechter Institute and the Hebrew University's Rothberg Graduate School since 2006. While at the University of Chicago, he will teach two courses: "Introduction to Aggadic Literature of the Rabbinic Period," a course designed for advanced undergraduates and early-stage graduate students; and "Traditions and Transmission: The Aggadic Tale," a graduate seminar.
