Spotlights

Dean Maduff is the Dean of Students in the Divinity School.

What do you enjoy about working as a staff member in the Divinity School?

My favorite part of any day at the Divinity School is having the opportunity to interact with students and learn about their interests. I feel very fortunate to work with students who are motivated by a genuine passion for their work.

What do you enjoy about living in Hyde Park/Chicago?

I enjoy relearning the city with my son and experiencing Chicago through his eyes and ears: the sounds of the trains and highways, the colors of the seasons, the vastness of the lake, the architectural engineering of the buildings and bridges.

What do you like to do outside of your work at the Divinity School?

When I have the opportunity to take vacation, I love visiting national parks. Last summer, we took a road trip to Yellowstone National Park and had an amazing time geyser gazing, hiking, and being out of cell range.

Anything else you would like to share?

Sometimes I still see campus the way it looked when I was a student here in the nineties: the circular drive around the main quad, tennis courts in front of Eckhart Hall, squirrel crossing signs, my old dorm across from Robie House (long since replaced by Booth), the C Shop with $1 shakes of any flavor, the ”romper room” with its giant pillows and sunken floor in Harper Library, and the different colors of carpet and furniture on each floor of the Reg.
