Why study religion?

Religion is a formalized practice or expression of faith. It is also a way to make sense of the world around us, construct meaning  as well as seek answers to the often evasive and esoteric questions that plague humanity. Studying religion  creates opportunites for potentially richer and deeper understanding of what it means to be human from a variety of perspectives.

What was an interesting or valuable thing you learned during your IMG project?

More often than not, the commonest assumptions we make about the effect of religion and culture on women’s lives is a negative one.

Buki Ogunseitan is a chaplain and a third-year MDiv student with a diverse background that includes biomedical sciences, informatics, and people and program management. Buki is interested in uncovering women’s autonomy and self-actualization within cultural and religious frameworks. Other themes that Buki is drawn to include storytelling as a tool for healing and exploring our shared humanity, as well as women’s wholeness and communal consciousness. In Buki’s spare time, she enjoys reading, storytelling, traveling, and eating beans.
