MDiv Dual Degree Programs
MDiv students may apply to one of three dual degree programs:
- MDiv & Master of Public Policy (MPP) with the Irving B. Harris School of Public Policy Studies
- MDiv & Juris Doctor (JD) with The University of Chicago Law School
- MDiv & Master of Arts in Social Work and Social Welfare (MASW) with The University of Chicago Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice
Students applying to dual degree programs must apply to both the Divinity School and also to the partner school (Harris, Law, or the Crown Family School), either concurrently or during their first year of enrollment at the Divinity School. For the Law School, applying concurrently is strongly recommended.
It is a student’s responsibility to inform the Divinity School of their acceptance into the second degree program. Incoming students in dual degree programs will meet with the Dean of Students office from each school and the MDiv Program Director by the end of their first quarter of enrollment. The purpose of these meetings is to give the student a clear overview of their program, and to develop a plan for meeting the requirements of each degree in an efficient and timely manner. Continuing students who receive admission to a second degree program will meet with the respective program’s Dean of Student’s offices as soon as possible after admission to the second degree program to review their degree progress and plan.
The completed dual degree plan must be submitted at the end of the first quarter of enrollment in both degree programs.
The program plan is reviewed and approved by the student’s academic advisors, the MDiv Program Director, and the Dean of Students Offices. Once it has been approved, a copy is kept in the student’s file. The plan will be revisited each spring, during the MDiv students’ annual progress reviews.
Questions regarding applications to the second degree program should be directed to the admissions office of the respective school.
