History of Christianity

Faculty Assistant Instructional Professor

Omri Matarasso is a historian of the medieval Middle East focusing on Christian communities situated between the Byzantine and Islamic worlds. His research encompasses the social, cultural, and linguistic histories of Eastern Christianity, as well as its medieval intersections with Judaism and Islam. Matarasso is currently working on his first book project, Mountains of Revelation: The Awgen Tradition and the Making of Monastic History in Medieval Iraq, which considers how seemingly marginal Eastern Christian communities contributed to a broader history of cross-cultural exchange and interregional connectivity in an increasingly global Middle Ages.
