Omri Matarasso is a historian of the late antique and medieval Middle East. His research focuses on the social, cultural, and linguistic histories of Eastern Christianity, as well as its medieval intersections with Judaism and Islam. Matarasso is currently working on his first book project, Mountains of Revelation: The Awgen Tradition and the Making of Monastic History in Medieval Iraq. The book seeks to demonstrate how seemingly marginal Eastern Christian communities participated in and contributed to a broader history of cross-cultural exchange and interregional connectivity in an increasingly global Middle Ages. 

Matarasso’s teaching spans the Middle Eastern and global histories of medieval Christianity. Among his courses are “Eastern Christianity: The First Thousand Years,” “The Making of the Christian West,” and “Saints and Hagiographies of the Medieval World.” Matarasso also teaches in the Religion Core and the new Ancient Mediterranean Religions sequence.
