Luis N. Alvarado is pursuing doctoral work in theology at the University of Chicago Divinity School. He grew up in Newark, New Jersey and was formed theologically within a parish serving recent Latin American and Caribbean immigrants navigating urban poverty. He completed his BA at Columbia University and his MA at the University of Chicago Divinity School.
Alvarado's research focuses on liberation theology, twentieth-century Catholic thought, and the philosophy of history. His current project, developed from his comprehensive exams, examines the relationship between revelation and reason through the question of the unity of history, engaging Gustavo Gutiérrez, David Tracy, M.D. Chenu, and Johannes Baptist Metz.
