Iris Reddick Manburg
Iris Reddick Manburg is a PhD candidate in Theology. Prior to arriving at the University of Chicago, she earned a Master of Divinity (Magna Cum Laude) and a Master of Theology (Summa Cum Laude) from Southern Methodist University. As an Artist Theologian and professional cellist, she is interested in womanist theology and ethics, theomusicology, sonic praxis, and aesthetics. Her research prioritizes womanist tenets of self-actualization and spiritual activism at the metaphysical intersection of sound, space, and consciousness. Her dissertation contends that vernacular and sonic-based pneumatologies have been key sources throughout the various waves of womanist theology. The project employs a theomusicological method to retrieve and critically examine both the theological significance of these texts and vernacular pneumatologies embedded within them, as sources necessary for advancing a constructive womanist pneumatology. She resides in Atlanta, GA, with her husband, Brian, and sons, Anthony and Isaac.
