The Divinity School is pleased to announce a public lecture with Divinity School Teaching Fellow Raúl E. Zegarra: "A Revolutionary Faith: A Panel Discussion"

Divinity School Teaching Fellow Raúl E. Zegarra will discuss his new book A Revolutionary Faith: Liberation Theology Between Public Religion and Public Reason (Stanford University Press, 2023). He will be joined in conversation with Christopher Tirres (DePaul University), Sarah Fredericks (The University of Chicago), and Maureen Kelly (The University of Chicago). Aslan Cohen (The University of Chicago) will be the moderator. Dr. Zegarra will first introduce the book to the audience. Drs. Tirres, Fredericks, and Kelly will follow with their comments. Each intervention will last 15 minutes. After the four presentations conclude, the floor will be opened for Q&A for 20-30 minutes.

Raúl E. Zegarra is the author of four books, multiple book chapters, academic articles, and translations. Dr. Zegarra received his PhD from The University of Chicago, and holds master's degrees in philosophy and theology from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and the University of Notre Dame, respectively. His research focuses on the relationship between faith and politics, with particular emphasis on how this relationship shapes the identity and commitments of minoritized groups. He currently teaches at The University of Chicago and is part of the editorial team at the Hispanic Theological Initiative. Among other distinctions, Dr. Zegarra received the 2022 University of Erfurt’s Max Weber Kolleg Research Fellowship and the University of Heidelberg’s 2021 Manfred Lautenschlaeger Award for Theological Promise. He is also a regular op-ed contributor to Peruvian newspapers El Comercio and La República.
