Grand Theft Auto isn’t the first place you’d expect to find religious tropes… but “Jesus Saves” checkpoints, cults, morality systems...they’re all there. On this episode of The Last Show with David Cooper, Marshall Cunningham, Assistant Instructional Professor, guides the listener through the ways religion, satire, and moral consequences are represented in games; how creators convey worldviews, ethics, and even criticism through gameplay. Cunningham's course, 'Gaming the Gods,' is part of the Year of Games at the University of Chicago, a campus-wide initiative that investigates the many ways games intersect with art, social issues, learning, and culture.
