Prof. Simi Chavel to appear on 'Sanctuary'
'Sanctuary': Teaching Judaism on Campus
11:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, ABC7-Channel 7
A few decades ago, some universities were imposing quotas on how many Jews they would accept. Today, on campuses large and small, Jewish Studies programs are standard fare, bringing Jewish insight and learning into the classroom and the broader community.
On the next episode of the public affairs television program "Sanctuary," three Chicago-area professors, including Prof. Simeon Chavel, Assistant Professor of Hebrew Bible, discuss how they introduce Judaism and Jewish thought to a highly diverse student body, and how their specialized field has become part of the educational mainstream.
This episode is hosted by Jerry Kaye.
"Sanctuary" is a joint production of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago and the Chicago Board of Rabbis, in cooperation with ABC7-Channel 7. Starting the week of Feb. 28, the program also will be available for viewing on the Jewish United Fund website.
