William Wood is Associate Professor of Philosophical Theology at the University of Oxford, and the Clifford Potter Fellow and Tutor in Theology at Oriel College, one of Oxford's constituent colleges. Professor Wood will be a Visiting Professor at The Divinity School  for the Fall Quarter and a Visiting Scholar for Spring and Summer 2025.

He has published two books with Oxford University Press: Analytic Theology and the Academic Study of Religion (2021), and Blaise Pascal on Duplicity, Sin, and the Fall (2013)

His broader research interests include questions about the place of theology in the modern research university, philosophical and theological accounts of sin and self-deception in the Augustinian tradition, and what it means to say that God is truth, drawing especially on medieval figures like Anselm and Aquinas.

Although he has spent his whole career in Oxford, Prof. Wood is originally from the United States. Before moving to Oxford, he received a PhD in theology from the University of Chicago, and spent a year as a postdoctoral fellow in philosophy at the University of Notre Dame.

He is very glad (really!) to be spending the 2024-25 academic year in Hyde Park.
