Clergy Teaching Fellows: Arts of Ministry

 

The Ministry Program in the University of Chicago Divinity School invites clergy members to apply for three teaching fellow positions for the 2008-2009 academic year. These fellows would join the teaching teams for the program’s three Arts of Ministry courses, required of all second-year ministry students: Preaching in the autumn quarter, Worship in the winter quarter, and Pastoral Care in the spring quarter. The other members of each team will be a member of the Divinity School faculty and a doctoral student.

These fellowships are part of the Divinity School’s Border Crossing Project, which aims to develop and support the intersection of ministry and academic interests at the Divinity School, supported by a generous grant from the Lilly Endowment. The clergy fellows will bring their ministerial experience and academic interests to the teaching team, enriching the classroom experience. The team members will reflect the many vocational commitments in the Divinity School, building connections within the School and with the larger community.

Clergy fellows will work with the teaching team to develop the syllabus for the course; share responsibility for class lectures, discussions, and supervised practice; hold regular office hours; and meet periodically during the quarter for consultation and evaluation. Classes meet for three hours on Friday mornings. Clergy fellows will receive an honorarium of $3,000 plus travel expenses.

Applications for these positions should include a resume and a cover letter, which should specify the course applied for, discuss relevant academic and vocational experience, and reflect on the intersection of ministry and teaching.
