Divinity School Reception and Alumni Reunion
Sunday, November 18, 2012
5-9 p.m.
Remarks from Dean Margaret M. Mitchell at 7:30 p.m.
Swift Hall
1025 E. 58th Street, Chicago Illinois
The Divinity School is pleased to welcome all alumni back to campus, for our reception and alumni reunion held on the weekend that the AAR and SBL conferences are in Chicago. All Divinity School alumni are invited, whether you are attending a conference or not. There will be plenty of street parking (check out the new light bridges on the Midway) and we will also be running free shuttle buses from Gate 42 of the conference venue beginning at 2:45 p.m. and continuing every 30 minutes on the quarter hour, with the final bus departing campus at 9:45 p.m. Starting at 6:45 p.m., buses leaving campus will drop off at the Chicago Hilton. Full bus schedules can be seen below. Alternately, you could take Metra or the #6 bus of the CTA. One caution regarding cabs: there are no cabs to hail in Hyde Park. If you wish to travel from Hyde Park by cab, we suggest you order one ahead of time and arrange for it to meet you at the Quad Club, 1155 East 57th Street, as many cabbies know that location and are willing to pick up fares there.
Come early and make an afternoon of it by strolling around campus.
- Grounds of Being, our own coffeeshop, will be open 3:30 - 6 p.m., serving complimentary coffee and tea, and many other drinks and snacks.
- The Regenstein Library's Special Collections Research Center will be open from 1-5 p.m. for viewing of the special exhibition titled: "Swiss Treasures: From Biblical Papyrus and Parchment to Erasmus, Zwingli, Calvin, and Barth." A guided tour for Divinity School alumni and friends is available at 4:15 p.m. Email Sara Bigger at sfbigger@uchicago.edu to make a reservation.
- 57th Street Books is offering a 10% discount to all alums who are not already benefiting from their 10% discount for members. Show your Save the Date postcard or the reunion email from the Dean. And plan to come back soon to see the Seminary Co-op in its new location; it is closed this weekend as they make the big move and prepare for their opening on November 21st.
- You have many choices for dinner at local Hyde Park restaurants and, of course, there's always Jimmy's.
Registration is not required, but it is strongly encouraged so we can plan a great event. Register today.
