Welcome to the Divinity School!
We are delighted by your interest in the Divinity School, and we are looking forward to meeting you and learning more about your plans for graduate study. On these pages you will find information about the application process and eligibility, tuition and financial aid, the intellectual and social lives of the school, and how to connect with us in Chicago or on the road.
The Divinity School is a vibrant piece of the University of Chicago community, a storied institution, and an intellectual destination for persons dedicated to the study of religion in all its complexity and diversity. Perhaps most importantly, the Divinity School is, we like to say, a lively and rigorous conversation about religion that unites and honors the particularities of methodology, orientation, social location, vocation, and style. Each day, religious leaders, professors, students, and public interlocutors come together in Swift Hall—united by their commitments to spirited inquiry and collegiality—to discuss the roles, shapes, and forces of religion in both history and contemporary life.
We invite you to be a part of the conversation. If you have questions about life at the Divinity School, or about the application process, please contact John Howell, Coordinator for Recruiting and Admissions, at or (773) 702-8249.
